Retrospective: 2018

Retrospective: 2018

As the end of each year approaches, I like to look back at the past twelve months, and reflect on the events that transpired that year, and identify the trends that the year held. Each year seemingly has a theme, and 2018 was no different. The past year certainly had...

Trip to Paradise

It was early afternoon when the telegram came. There was no earth shaking reverberation to announce the transition, just a knock at a perfectly normal door.

Goodnight, My Love

Project M.A.R.S.

The first manned mission to Mars is about to begin. Dan Stapleton, the head of NASA, and the most firm believer in Project M.A.R.S. finds himself tested when an attempt on his life is made, and on the eve of the launch, a conspiracy is detected…

The Silence of Night

Gagged and bound, Arthur struggled, desperately working to free himself enough to escape. The task was made more difficult because the floor upon which he lie—the trunk of a midsized car—heaved and bucked…

Panic Button

The first sound Hanz was aware of was that of a high-pitched siren, blaring loudly around him.
Cracking his eyes, he looked around slowly. The light was blindingly bright, and for some reason his head hurt.

What Goes Around

Steam was rising from the streets, slowly crawling skyward in the chilled morning. The only sound came from the fall of his boots upon the pavement, echoing loudly off the tin walls of the empty warehouses that lined the narrow streets.

Building Worlds

His hearts were pumping loudly; he could feel them beating in his chest. He glanced around nervously, hoping no one noticed, and then realized he was alone.

Video: Las Vegas 2018 Vlog

We went to Las Vegas to celebrate Jenny's birthday. We hadn't been to Vegas since our honeymoon in 2007, so it was time for a re-visit.   In this video, we chronicle our trip, and the fun and goofy time we had.

Retrospective: 2017

As I do each and every December, I sat down to write about the past year, and all its up and downs, reflecting on whether it was a good year, or a bad year. 2017 must be categorized as both. For Houston, it was both a great year, and a terrible one. For me and my...

Review: iPhone X

The iPhone X (yes, it’s pronounced “10”, not “ex”) was announced to much fanfare, and fans immediately began salivating over it. Critics argued that it was merely copying what was already out there–phones like the Galaxy S8, the LG G6, and others. This really is a next-generation smart-phone, and in many ways has arrived ahead of time.

Apple, I Wish I Could Quit You

With the release of the next wave of Android flagship phones, namely the Galaxy S8 by Samsung, I find myself lusting over that new phone, and yet, want as I might, I cannot make myself switch back to Android. Apple has managed to lock me in, and I can't navigate my...
